Brain Storming Techniques

Business Ideas you didn’t think of

Most people at one time or the other has come up with an idea or ideas that they never pursue.   Eventually that same idea would become a profitable product or business by someone else that put their thoughts into action.

In my career in the Silicon Valley, it was the beginning of technology. Semiconductors, Video Games, Computers, you name it, it was happening. Did anyone ever think that our cell phones would also become our computers or that you could stream movies or Skype and see love ones when we called them? Isn’t it mind blowing at times to see how far we have come and where we are going in the next 20 years?

When I was at Apple Computer in the 80’s, we were encouraged to Brain storm with others. Brain storming is a group problem solving technique that allows participants to share ideas to result in a solution or create a new idea.

As you’re all aware by now, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak came up with the personal computer by using this technique.

The Brain storming technique actually originated back in 1939. An advertising executive named Alex F. Osborn, frustrated by his employees lack of ideas to pitch to his clients came up with the idea of everyone on his team sitting down each throwing out various ideas. He learned, working in this type of environment that the team produced many new ideas thus resulting ins success for his clients.

Osborn later wrote a book ‘Applied Imagination’ which spoke about his brain storming techniques.
